Three Queen's Women's Rugby alumnae will be playing for gold with Team Canada at the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup final on Saturday.

Sophie de Goede (2022), McKinley Hunt (2020) and Taylor Perry (2023) will all suit up for Canada as they take on host England in the final at Allianz Stadium in London.

de Goede was named Queen's Varsity Female Athlete of the Year, as well as the OUA and U SPORTS Athlete of the Year in 2021-22, her final season at Queen's. That year she helped the Gaels capture the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship, their first national championship in program history.

Hunt, who graduated from Queen's in 2020, was awarded the PHE '55 Alumnae Award as Queen's Varsity Teams Female Athlete of the Year for the 2019-20 season. She finished her career with the Gaels as a three-time U SPORTS All-Canadian and OUA All-Star.

Perry was named an OUA Second Team All-Star at Fly Half in 2023 after recording three tries for 15 points for Queen's and helping the Gaels repeat as OUA Champions in 2023. Perry added another try during the Gaels run to a bronze medal in the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship. Perry was also named a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian in 2019.

Along with Queen's teammate Chloe Daniels, who is still part of the Gaels Women's Rugby program, Perry helped Team Canada capture the Olympic silver medal in Paris in Women's Rugby Sevens in 2024.

Queen's Women's Rugby continues their 2025 campaign this Saturday at 5 p.m. against the Western Mustangs at Nixon Field.

The Gaels will hold a pre-game presentation prior to the game for OUA's Anti-Racism Week, as well as unveil warm up jerseys that were designed by an Indigenous artist.

Fans can watch Saturday's game for free at Nixon Field.
