North Bay, ON – Nipissing Men's Volleyball secured a massive 3-0 win over the Brock Badgers Friday, January 9th at RJS Student Athletic Centre.
Nipissing jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first set as Ben Franz, Taydon Shantz, and Marc Marchand all contributed kills. Brock would take 4 of the next 5 points to reel in the set. The Lakers would explode again, winning 4 of the next 5 points to lead 14-9. The teams would trade points, with the largest run for any side being 2. Trent O'Brien contributed 3 key kills down the stretch for the Lakers, who found themselves leading 21-15. The next set began at a calmer pace as the teams worked their way into the second before being tied at 8 points. Nipissing took 5 of the next 7 points to lead 20-15. Ben Franz, Trent O'Brien, and a Brock service error played the part in the run.
Brock would score 4 more points to keep the match close, but their efforts were not a match for Nipissing's lead. The Lakers closed the set on a Ben Franz kill, winning 25-19.
The third started in close fashion, and a 10-10 tie is where things landed soon after. Zander Kasunich and Taydon Shantz scored kills to give the Lakers a 3-point lead. Nipissing would then take 6 of the next 8 points to grow the lead to 19-13 from a Marc Marchand kill.
