CALGARY – One year removed from a record-breaking crowd, one of the most anticipated events on the U SPORTS calendar returns as the University of Calgary Dinos and Mount Royal University Cougars take over the Scotiabank Saddledome for the 12th annual Crowchild Classic on Thursday, Jan. 29.

The annual event holds multiple U SPORTS hockey attendance records, including the single-game mark of 13,139 fans set last January at the Saddledome. Tickets are now available for purchase at GoDinos.com/cc for just $10.

The Crowchild Classic at the Saddledome is an annual celebration of university sport in Calgary and the city's largest yearly gathering of students. The event will once again feature a hockey doubleheader, with the women's game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

Beyond the rivalry and playing in front of the largest crowd of the season, these games annually live up to the hype. Three of the four hockey programs involved are currently ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10, while 13 of the 22 previous contests at the 'Dome have been decided by a single goal, including eight that required overtime.

Through the first 11 installments of the crosstown rivalry on NHL ice, an impressive 110,903 fans have shown their support for university hockey in the city of Calgary.

About the Crowchild Classic
The Crowchild Classic is an annual competition between the University of Calgary Dinos and the Mount Royal University Cougars in Canada West regular season games across the sports of basketball, hockey, soccer, and volleyball. The marquee event – a hockey doubleheader – takes place each year at the Scotiabank Saddledome thanks to the generous support of the Calgary Flames Foundation. The school that wins the most games in the series is awarded 'The Medal' – a 68-kilogram cast iron City of Calgary manhole cover.

The rivalry series began in 2012, and the annual Crowchild Classic game has routinely broken attendance records. In its inaugural season, the event surpassed a 42-year-old Canada West attendance record with more than 4,000 fans in attendance. Three years later, that figure grew to 12,859, setting a U SPORTS men's hockey attendance record that stood until last year's crowd of 13,139. In 11 seasons, the event has become a fixture on the Calgary sports scene and one of Canada's marquee university sport events.
