(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS beat the Cape Breton Capers 72-62 in a battle for third place in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action, Friday evening, at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
Marcus Barnes led all scorers with 23 points for the home team while Eden Otshudi, named Tim Horton's Player of the Game, added 21 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
UNB took an early 27-13 lead in the first quarter, but the Capers rallied in the second, outscoring the home team 18-12 to trail 39-31 at the half-time break.
The REDS were able to maintain their eight-point advantage through the third quarter and then pulled away in the final ten minutes for the ten-point triumph.
Brandon Laryea contributed 10 points and eight rebounds to the REDS' effort and Conner Landell pulled down nine rebounds.
Tafarian Black put up a double-double to lead the Capers. He scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Stefan Anisko had 16 points and eight rebounds for the visitors.
The REDS improve to 7-and-5 with the win, taking over sole possession of third place in the standings.
The Capers are now 6-and-5 and in fourth place.
The two teams wrap up their weekend series on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
